Simple, fast, and one of those tools I always want in the bag.
Whenever I am about to put a screw into an existing wall, I like having a quick second check that I am actually on a stud.

WHY IT MADE THE LIST
Why this stud finder lives in my bag.
I use a stud finder more than people might expect in commercial carpentry, especially when I am working in an existing space. If I am fastening wall angle, hanging an accessory, or getting ready to cut into a wall or ceiling, I like removing as much guesswork as I can.
This one is simple enough that I actually use it. I do not want a complicated screen or a bunch of settings when the question is just: where is the stud?

What I actually use it for.
I use it to locate studs when I am fastening ACT wall angle in existing spaces, hanging accessories, and finding rough openings before I start cutting into a wall or ceiling.
Any time I am putting a screw into an existing wall, I like having a little extra assurance that I am about to hit something solid instead of guessing.
Why I like it.
It is fast and easy to understand. The sensor array lights up and gives me the information without turning the task into its own little project.
I keep one in my bag because it saves time. Finding the framing quickly is better than tapping on the wall, guessing, drilling a test hole, and then patching the guess later.
THE HONEST PART
What I do not like.
I wish it were more heavy duty. I keep mine in a bag with other tools, and over time that can be rough on it. I have had them become inaccurate or take enough abuse that I stop trusting them.
I have also opened my bag and found the battery compartment open with the batteries out. It is a tool I like enough to replace, but I would love a tougher jobsite version of the same simple idea.
MY VERDICT
Would I recommend it?
Absolutely. I always want one available. It is not exciting, but it saves time and gives me confidence before I start drilling or cutting into an existing wall.
