Paver Calculator

Estimate whole pavers for a patio or other measured paved surface.

Your measurements

Dimensions accept decimals, fractions and explicit feet/inches. Unmarked values use the labeled unit. Other quantities use numbers only.

Use supplier coverage including joints if specified.
Editable allowance, 0–100%. Blank means 0%.
Optional whole-piece count supplied by your vendor.

Your estimate

Enter your measurements to see the estimate.

Dimension mode ignores joints; use known coverage when your supplier gives a joint-inclusive coverage rate. Patterns, borders, cuts, and breakage affect quantities. Base materials, site drainage, and engineering are excluded.

How to Use This Calculator

Estimate whole pavers for a patio or other measured paved surface.

Decimals and fractions accepted for dimensions. Unmarked values use the labeled unit; explicit feet/inches are converted. For example, 10' 6 1/4" is an explicit length; 10.6 means 10.6 of the labeled unit. Rates, prices, counts and areas use numbers only.

Inputs and where to find them

Paver coverage method. Choose dimensions when estimating from the length and width of a rectangular paver. Choose known coverage when the supplier provides a per-piece coverage figure that suits the installed joint pattern. Dimension entry does not add a joint allowance.

Paved surface area (sq ft). Measure the finished paved surface before adding cutting waste. Separate borders or different paver sizes when they need their own piece counts. This area does not include the depth or quantity of the base material.

Paver length (in). Measure one face dimension of the rectangular paver. The dimension option uses the paver face alone, without joint spacing. Use known coverage instead if the supplier’s joint-inclusive coverage is more appropriate.

Paver width (in). Measure the second face dimension of the same paver. A mixed-size pattern should not be represented by one convenient size unless you have established an appropriate coverage figure for it.

Known coverage per paver (sq ft). Enter the square feet covered by one paver using the supplier’s stated coverage basis. If information is provided as pieces per square foot, take its reciprocal to obtain square feet per piece. Do not enter the coverage of a whole pallet here.

Waste allowance (%). Enter the percentage you want to add for cutting, handling loss or other conditions specific to this work. Apply it to the measured quantity rather than enlarging the measurements as well. The suggested value is editable, not a universal recommendation; enter zero when no allowance is needed.

Pavers per package / pallet. Enter the whole number of pavers supplied in one package or pallet. This is a piece count, not square footage. Leave it blank for a piece-only estimate; otherwise the result also rounds purchases to complete packages.

Results, example and assumptions

Per-paver coverage is either calculated from the face dimensions or taken from your supplied coverage figure. Required area includes waste, and pavers are rounded to whole pieces. When a package count is supplied, packages and purchased pavers describe complete packages. Base stone, bedding material and edge restraint are not included.

Piece coverage = length (in) × width (in) ÷ 144, or supplied coverage.
Pavers = round up(area × (1 + waste ÷ 100) ÷ piece coverage).
Packages = round up(whole pavers ÷ pavers per package).

Worked example: A 120 sq ft patio using 6 × 12 in pavers has 0.5 sq ft per piece. With 10% waste, allow 132 sq ft or 264 pavers. At 100 pavers per pallet, that is 3 pallets, containing 300 pavers.

Dimension mode ignores joints; use known coverage when your supplier gives a joint-inclusive coverage rate. Patterns, borders, cuts, and breakage affect quantities. Base materials, site drainage, and engineering are excluded.
