Self-Leveling Compound Calculator

Estimate leveling-compound volume, whole bags and purchased weight from product coverage at a stated depth.

Your measurements

Dimensions accept decimals, fractions and explicit feet/inches. Unmarked values use the labeled unit. Other quantities use numbers only.

Use measured average depth, not only the deepest point.
Enter the manufacturer’s coverage at the reference depth below.
Editable example allowance; 0–100%. Enter 0 for none.

Your estimate

Enter your measurements to see the estimate.

Use the exact product yield. Approximate linear yield scaling is a quantity estimate, not authorization to exceed thickness limits. Primer, aggregate extension, moisture treatment, substrate preparation and local high/low variation need separate assessment.

How to Use This Calculator

Estimate leveling-compound volume, whole bags and purchased weight from product coverage at a stated depth.

Decimals and fractions accepted for dimensions. Unmarked values use the labeled unit; explicit feet/inches are converted. For example, 10' 6 1/4" is an explicit length; 10.6 means 10.6 of the labeled unit. Rates, prices, counts and areas use numbers only.

Inputs and where to find them

Measured area (sq ft). Measure the surface receiving the leveling compound. Exclude areas outside the pour and estimate separate zones where depths differ substantially. The quantity depends on the area and average fill thickness together.

Average fill depth (in). Enter the average thickness of compound needed across the entered area. Survey high and low spots against the intended finished plane; the deepest spot alone is not the average. A flat uniform-depth estimate does not map variations in the floor.

Product coverage per bag (sq ft). Enter the square feet one bag covers at the reference thickness below. Obtain both numbers from the same product’s technical data. Coverage at a thin application cannot be used unchanged for a deeper fill.

Coverage reference depth (in). Enter the thickness associated with the product coverage figure, not the depth of your project. The calculator compares your average fill depth with this reference to estimate bag yield. Verify permitted application thickness and any aggregate-extension requirements separately.

Dry material per bag (lb). Enter the dry weight of one bag of that same leveling product. This determines the weight of the whole bags being purchased. Do not combine coverage for one bag size with the weight of a different size.

Allowance (%). Enter the percentage you want to add for cutting, handling loss or other conditions specific to this work. Apply it to the measured quantity rather than enlarging the measurements as well. The suggested value is editable, not a universal recommendation; enter zero when no allowance is needed.

Results, example and assumptions

Net volume is the fill before allowance, while required volume includes it. Bags are rounded upward using the selected product’s coverage at its reference thickness. Purchased weight is the dry weight of those complete bags. Confirm the product’s application limits and substrate preparation separately; a quantity calculation does not authorize a particular pour depth.

Layer volume = area × average depth ÷ 12. Bag yield = stated coverage × reference depth ÷ 12. Bags = ceil(layer volume × allowance factor ÷ bag yield). Purchased weight = bags × bag weight.

Illustrative example (not a named product specification): 100 sq ft at 1/4 in requires 2.0833 cu ft. Using an illustrative 30 sq ft/bag at 1/4 in and 10% allowance requires 4 bags; at 50 lb/bag that is 200 lb purchased.

Use the exact product yield. Approximate linear yield scaling is a quantity estimate, not authorization to exceed thickness limits. Primer, aggregate extension, moisture treatment, substrate preparation and local high/low variation need separate assessment.
