WHY IT MADE THE LIST

Why this tool stayed in my rotation.

An impact driver is one of the easiest tools to overthink because there are so many good ones. For me, this choice is not complicated. DEWALT is the impact platform I have used since the beginning of my career, and when I have used other impacts here and there, I have never liked them as much.

I use an impact across almost every part of construction I touch: metal framing, drywall, ceilings, doors, and general fastening. That means the tool has to do more than make torque on a spec sheet. I care about how it feels in my hand after I have been carrying it, using it overhead, and reaching for it hundreds of times.

What I actually use it for.

This is a true everyday tool for me. On framing it is constantly in and out of my pouch. On ceiling and door work it comes along because there is always something to fasten, adjust, or assemble. It is not a specialty purchase that waits in a case until one exact task comes up.

One feature I use more than I expected is the extended work light. Being able to leave the light on for an extended period is genuinely useful when I am above a ceiling or working in a plenum. I can use the tool itself as a small working light instead of immediately reaching for something else.

Why I like it.

The simple answer is that it is strong, has plenty of torque for the work I ask it to do, and feels good in my hands. That combination matters more to me than any single feature.

I also like that I do not feel guilty leaving the light on. In my experience the light does not meaningfully punish the battery, so I actually use the feature instead of treating it like a gimmick.

How long I have used it.

I have used this type of DEWALT impact since I started my career. I have tried other impacts along the way, but I always come back to the same feel and balance. At this point the preference is based on years of repetition, not first impressions.
